Peter studied economics (PhD) and philosophy in St. Gallen, Lausanne (CH) and Freiburg (D). 1990-1997 he served as Deputy Mayor for Environmental Protection of the City of Freiburg,1993-1997 he was Chairman of the Executive Committee of ICLEI, Cities for Sustainability. Peter is the co-founder and executive director of the CANOPUS Foundation, a charitable family foundation launched in 1997 and based in Freiburg / Germany (www.canopusfund.org). Since 2000 CANOPUS has been active in the field of venture philanthropy. The foundation provides not-for-profit seed capital and business development assistance for social entrepreneurs in South America, Africa and Asia bringing renewable energies to those in need. In 2001 CANOPUS co-founded the BASE (Basel Agency for Sustainable Energy) Foundation, a Swiss charity and trinational UNEP Collaborating Centre (www.energy-base.org). In his business life, Peter is the founder, owner and executive director of Forseo GmbH, an independent investment company providing early stage venture capital for renewable energy companies (www.forseo.de). He serves as chairman of the supervisory boards of two companies and as a member of the boards of trustees of three European foundations.
